Two Ingredient Eye Drops - A Natural Way To Relieve Dry, Itchy, Bloodshot Eyes

Let me start by saying: I love my church. I love the people, I love the teachings... but our church's nursery is a petri dish for sickness.

A couple of months ago, the kids had hand, foot and mouth disease.

A little over a month ago, there was lice.

And this last week: pink eye.

We didn't even GO to church this past Sunday (I know, I know, but we needed a family mental health day), but my eyes were already itching BEFORE Sunday - and when I heard about the most recent outbreak, of COURSE they started itching more!

So I was dealing with bloodshot, itchy eyes - probably because of the crazy dry conditions of our house (woodstove, etc). And they were driving me insane. Then I heard about the pink eye and my crazy pregnancy brain went into panic-over-thinking everything mode (as hubby calls it).

I did some research and found this website. I have really been trying to avoid any medications, or medicines from the store if at all possible - partially because I'm getting more and more into the natural way of curing things, partly because I'm prego and trying to do all things natural, but mostly because this costs nothing!

So first of all, you KNOW I have to throw this out there - I’m not suggesting everyone can or should try to cure pink eye or dry eyes with a home remedy. For some, it may be best to consult a trusted doctor. I’m definitely not a doctor and this post should not be mistaken as medical advice. It’s generally not smart to test things out in your eyes, but since I've tried this myself, I am excited to share how it helped me!

SO - what you need:
  • 2 tsp raw honey
  • 1 cup water (the above website calls for milk, but we are dairy-free in this house so I tried it without, and it still worked great!)
  • One dropper. (I used what I had on hand for this - an old medicine syringe. I sterilized the syringe first by washing it in hot, soapy water, and then boiling it on the stove to remove any impurities.)
First, you want to add the honey and water to a small pan on the stove, and bring to a boil. Remove from heat, stir with a sterilized spoon, and set aside. It needs to be completely cool.

I think I let it cool for about 15 - 20 minutes - I definitely didn't want to dump anything hot into my eyes! Using the sterilized dropper, I applied one drop to each eye. I'm not going to lie, it stung!! I had to blink quite a few times after each drop, but I immediately felt relief from the itchiness!

I poured the water/honey solution into an airtight container and stored it in the fridge. I ended up applying the drops two more times to each eye that day.

I had been dealing with puffy, dry, itchy, and bloodshot eyes for about 3 - 4 days by that point. The itchiness and dryness went away immediately for me after the drops. The next morning, my eyes were no longer bloodshot!

There really is something to this all-natural approach, isn't there? :) Add me on facebook for more natural DIY ideas, fitness tips, nutrition information, and tips about emotional eating!
